The Official Barista Friend 2023 Gift Guide

Seasons greetings, friends! I freakin’ loooove giving gifts. It’s one of my absolute favorite things. Taking time to consider each of my friends and family members, what they like, and what might bring joy to them makes me giggle and rub my hands together with excitement (does anybody else do that? lol).

That being said, I can also completely understand how it might feel overwhelming, especially with everything else happening in the world. I’m here to help!!! Here are my best recommendations for coffee gifts for the coffee people in your life, from least to most expensive.

Please note - some of these are affiliate links, so I make a little bit of money when you buy from them. Not a ton of money, just a little bit. Ok, now onto the good stuff:

Mountain Marigold tea - $17 - Spirit Tea

Whoopsie, the first item on the coffee gift guide is tea!!! This herbal tonic from Chicago tea purveyors Spirit Tea is literally stunning, both visually and flavor-wise. Good gift for the caffeine-free girlies on your list.

Portafilter keychain - $20 - Etsy

V cute gift for anyone on your list with an affinity for espresso. Best for coworkers, acquaintances, or, like, your sister’s boyfriend, someone like that. It's also a great idea for a white elephant… Just silly enough, but not a full-blown prank.

If you’re looking for a gag gift and willing to splurge on something stupid, a bag of Kopi Luwak coffee will do the trick… mwahaha

How to Taste Coffee by Jessica Easto - $25 - Amazon

A beautiful book about smelling and tasting specialty coffee. I just picked this up and already devoured it. Easy to read, fun, and full of super valuable information and sensory exercises for home enthusiasts and industry vets alike. Plus, it looks sooo pretty on a coffee table. Good for the people in your life who cook NY Times recipes and listen to NPR.

Ceramic Mug - $TBD - Your local ceramicist

You can never go wrong with a hand-thrown ceramic mug, especially when you buy it from a small business in your town or city. This is always my go-to when I don't know what to get someone. I could imagine this being a very well-received gift for someone like your partner’s mom, your kid’s teacher, or a Secret Santa situation.

Handleless milk pitcher - $55 - Slow Pour Supply

For the budding latte artist in your life, this pitcher will greatly improve the quality of their pours. These are the only milk pitchers I use, and the handleless design allows for utmost control. Slow Pour Supply is led by Houston coffee legend Anita Tam. She’s a positive force to be reckoned with in the specialty coffee community, so supporting her business is that much sweeter <3

Around The World in 12 Days Coffee Tasting Box - $90 - Coffee Project NY

This might be the coolest idea for a holiday-tasting kit I’ve ever seen! Coffee Project is always on my radar for unique coffee offerings, but this is some next-level shit. Each box comes with 12 different single-origin coffees featuring women producers, experimental processes, and unique varietals. Perfect for… me. This is what I want for Christmas. Someone please get me this; I promise I will share!!!

Acaia Pearl - $150 - Prima Coffee Supply

If the coffee nerd in your life doesn’t have a scale, first of all, whaaaaat? But second of all, what a great opportunity to give them something absolutely critical for making better coffee!!! This is the scale to end all scales. Yes, there are cheaper, decent scales, but none rival the touch/feel of the Acaia Pearl. I use mine every day for coffee, baking, and measuring all the other fun stuff I like to measure in grams ;)

Fellow Opus grinder - $195 - Prima Coffee Supply

Fellow is widely known for their sleek and sexy coffee equipment, and the Opus is no exception. It’s an all-purpose grinder (espresso, pour-over, or immersion) that will look stunning on the counter and not make too much noise. Nice, high-end gift for your roommate/partner (so you can use it, too, of course!!!).

Advanced Tasting Class - $260 - Tomato Coffee Class

While I don’t know Julien Langeven personally, they are the 2023 Cup Taster’s Champion, which is to say, they know a thing or two about tasting coffee. This virtual class would be super helpful for the career of any coffee professional in your life. Also, a marvelous choice for anyone more interested in experiences than material items. We love those people. <3
